During the production process of our fertilizers, everything is focused on energy efficiency and heat recovery, without discharge of waste water.
We are committed to systematically reducing CO2 emissions per product produced. To this end, we pursue an energy policy based on the three steps of the Trias Energetica concept. This is a three-step strategy to make energy policy more sustainable as part of a continuous optimisation process.
We limit the demand for energy by not wasting it: allow in as much daylight as possible, an energy-efficient production process, LED lighting, motion sensors for lighting the warehouse and offices, etc.
We use renewable energy. We only buy green electricity, which has further reduced our CO2 emissions.
Only if really necessary, we use fossil fuels in the most efficient way possible. In addition, we reuse generated heat for the production process or for heating up the building. |
Did you know that our head office in Grobbendonk is almost energy neutral (AEN)? This means that very little energy is used for heating, ventilation, cooling and hot water. The building draws its energy from renewable sources. To achieve this fine example of innovation, we have incorporated about all modern techniques of sustainable construction, such as sunblinds, solar panels, advanced insulation and even concrete core activation. Pleasant for our employees and for the environment.
Just like energy, we use water sparingly. Since clean water is becoming increasingly scarce worldwide, we at DCM want to contribute our part. Our production process focuses on minimal water consumption and uses groundwater from a source provided for this purpose on our site.
The rainwater collected from the roofs of our offices and warehouses is partly returned to the soil by first passing through an infiltration basin. In this way, the groundwater is gradually renewed on a permanent basis. In order to guarantee health of the soil, we systematically test it.
Did you know that we have the status of “zero-discharge company” for the production of our fertilizers? This means that the water used in the production process at DCM is not discharged. Thanks to a smart production process, this water is completely absorbed into the final product or evaporates during the drying process, which allows us to avoid waste water generation!
The circular economy is intended to prevent us from literally exhausting all our scarce resources, such as clean water. At DCM, our commitment to a better world also applies when it comes to buying our raw materials:
SDG 9.4:
Modernize infrastructure and adapt industries to make them sustainable, with an emphasis on more efficient use of resources and cleaner an environmentally friendly industrial technologies and processes.
SDG 12.2:
Ensure sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources
SDG 12.5:
Significantly reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.
